Behind the scenes
BiomassNet was established in 2017 by the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) in Accra, Ghana, and the Center for Development Research (ZEF) of Bonn University, Germany, as an outreach activity of the BiomassWeb project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and additional funds from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The BiomassWeb project aims at contributing to food security and the emerging bio-economies in sub-Saharan Africa by promoting innovations in the food and non-food biomass sector. The project consists of several work packages that carry out inter- and transdisciplinary research in Ghana, Nigeria and Ethiopia with a current focus on maize, cassava, bamboo, plantain, banana and enset.
As a research project, BiomassWeb is limited to a five-year period (2013-2018), while the BiomassNet online platform will become part of FARA’s ongoing and future activities in the agricultural sector of Africa.
